How to Choose an AWS Consulting Partner in India
Partner-tier claims are easy to inflate. Use this checklist to evaluate AWS consulting partners on account ownership, delivery model, commercial clarity and India-ready delivery — and see how Upvantix fits as an AWS Select Tier Services Partner.
By Upvantix team
To choose an AWS consulting partner in India, start with the work you need done, then check three things in writing: the partner’s actual AWS tier and validations, who owns and can access your AWS accounts, and who will deliver and operate the result. You can confirm a partner’s tier and validations in AWS Partner Solutions Finder; a tier reflects AWS-trained people and customer launches, not a guaranteed outcome for your workload.
Use the evaluation steps, the tier and validation comparison table and the checklist below to compare proposals side by side. Upvantix is an AWS Select Tier Services Partner, and this guide applies the same tests to us.
Start with the work, then the partner
Define whether you need a foundation, a migration, modernization or ongoing operations. Record the workloads in scope, current constraints, internal owners and decisions the engagement must settle.
A proposal should match that scope. Ask what is included, what is excluded and what your team will own after delivery.
- Name the workloads and decision owners
- Agree on deliverables and handover
- Identify open dependencies before committing to a path
How to evaluate an AWS partner
Evaluate each partner against your scope rather than its marketing. Ask every shortlisted partner the same questions, in writing, so the answers can be compared side by side.
Weight the answers by risk: for production migrations and ongoing operations, account ownership, access and the named delivery team matter more than a badge.
- Scope fit: does the proposal name your workloads, deliverables, exclusions and handover?
- Tier and validations: does the claimed AWS tier, and any AWS Specialization, match the partner’s AWS Partner Solutions Finder listing?
- Delivery team: who will do the work, and which current AWS certifications do those named people hold?
- Relevant experience: can the partner show comparable work and offer references you can contact?
- Account ownership and access: will your organization own the AWS accounts, with least-privilege access that is removed at handover?
- Commercial model: are AWS charges separated from service fees, and how are scope changes priced?
- Operations after go-live: who monitors, patches and responds to incidents, and what is documented for your team?
AWS partner tiers and validations compared
AWS groups services partners (consulting, professional, managed and value-added resale organizations) into three tiers: Select, Advanced and Premier. Validations such as AWS Specializations sit on top of a tier and are earned through separate AWS technical assessments that include reviews of customer examples. The table summarizes what AWS publishes as of October 2026; check the AWS pages for current requirements.
Upvantix is an AWS Select Tier Services Partner. Ask any partner, including us, to show each tier or validation it claims on its Partner Solutions Finder listing.
| Criterion | What AWS says it indicates | Published requirements or status |
|---|---|---|
| Select Tier | Partners with trained and certified individuals, as well as customer experience. | 4 accredited individuals (2 technical, 2 business), 2 AWS Foundational certified, 2 AWS technical certified, 3 launched opportunities (total MRR at least US$1,500). |
| Advanced Tier | Partners with a strong team of trained and certified technical individuals and proven customer experience. | 8 accredited individuals, 4 Foundational certified, 6 technical certified (at least 3 Professional or Specialty), 20 launched opportunities (total MRR at least US$10,000) and a partner business plan. |
| Premier Tier | The most experienced partners, recognized as leaders in their markets, with multiple program validations and success with many customers at scale. | 20 accredited individuals, 10 Foundational certified, 25 technical certified (at least 10 Professional or Specialty), 50 launched opportunities (total MRR at least US$50,000), three AWS Competency, MSP or Well-Architected validations including MSP, DevOps or CloudOps, an executive business review, and tier criteria sustained for more than six months. |
| AWS Competency | Validates partners that use AWS technology to solve complex industry and use-case challenges. | An AWS Specialization; AWS lists the Competency program for Advanced and Premier Tier partners. |
| AWS Managed Service Provider (MSP) | Partners specialized in end-to-end AWS solutions and services at any stage of the cloud journey, including managing workloads. | An AWS Specialization; AWS lists the MSP program for Advanced and Premier Tier partners. |
| AWS Service Delivery | Validated deep technical knowledge and success delivering specific AWS services. | Being retired: new applications are closed, and AWS says it will be deprecated on 1 June 2027. |
How to find an AWS partner in India
Start with AWS Partner Solutions Finder, the AWS directory of partner profiles, solutions, case studies and locations. Search by location for India, then refine by industry, use case or AWS validation. AWS lists Partner Solutions Finder listings as a benefit from Select Tier upwards.
Lists of “top AWS partners in India” or “top AWS consulting companies” are usually rankings published by media or vendors. Use them to build a long list if you like, but confirm each partner’s tier and validations in Partner Solutions Finder, then shortlist two or three that fit your workload.
For India workloads, also ask whether the team has delivered in the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Regions, how it handles data residency and CERT-In or sector logging requirements, and which working hours and escalation path it commits to.
AWS partner evaluation checklist
Copy these questions into your RFP or shortlist call and ask for written answers.
- Which AWS tier do you hold, and does your Partner Solutions Finder listing show it?
- Which AWS Specializations, if any, do you hold, and are they relevant to this workload?
- Who are the named people on this engagement, and which current AWS certifications do they hold?
- Can you show comparable work and give references we can contact?
- Will our organization own every AWS account, and how is your access granted, logged and removed?
- What is in scope, what is excluded, and what will our team own after handover?
- How are AWS charges separated from your service fees, and how are scope changes priced?
- Who operates the workloads after go-live, and with what monitoring, patching and incident response?
- What documentation and runbooks will we receive at handover?
- For India workloads, how will you meet our data residency and logging obligations in the Mumbai or Hyderabad Regions?
What an AWS consulting partner should mean
A consulting partner should help you plan and implement agreed AWS work, with a clear division of responsibilities. Ask how architecture choices, access controls, change approvals and operational handover will be documented.
A partner designation describes participation in a partner program. Evaluate the proposed delivery team and scope on their own merits rather than treating a designation as a substitute for a plan.
Partner-tier honesty checklist
Ask for the exact AWS partner designation the provider holds, and check that claims in the proposal match it. Upvantix is an AWS Select Tier Services Partner; evaluate any additional status claimed by a provider against current evidence.
Ask what the designation means for the work being proposed, and request evidence for any additional status or capability claimed by a prospective provider.
Account ownership and access
Keep AWS accounts under your organization’s ownership. Agree on who grants access, which roles the delivery team needs, how changes are approved and how access is removed at handover.
Use least-privilege access appropriate to the task. Ask for an inventory of account boundaries, identity controls, logging and the people responsible for each decision.
Delivery and commercial clarity
Compare proposals by the work, responsibilities and review points they describe. For an implementation project, clarify the outputs and acceptance criteria; for ongoing operations, clarify the workloads, capacity and ownership boundaries.
Upvantix describes its managed services through a capacity-based model rather than a percentage of your AWS bill. Ask any provider to separate AWS charges from service charges and explain how changes in scope are handled.
India mid-market fit
For an India-based mid-market team, confirm the working language, decision-makers, access model and handover expectations before selecting a partner. Make sure the operating plan works for the people who will own the workloads after the project.
Ask how the partner will coordinate with your existing team and how unresolved dependencies will be escalated. Fit is about accountable delivery, not a generic vendor ranking.
