AWS Cloud Foundations: What to Stand Up Before You Scale

Cloud foundations are the account, identity, network, security, delivery and observability baseline your AWS workloads need before you scale. Upvantix designs and implements that foundation as an AWS Select Tier Services Partner.

Review your AWS foundation

Operating problem

Build the operating baseline before workload complexity grows.

AWS cloud foundations become hard to change when account structure, access, networking, logging, security and deployment decisions are made independently. Teams then inherit sprawl, weak identity, missing baselines and cost surprises just as workloads grow.

Upvantix approach

Design cloud foundations as one system.

Upvantix designs AWS cloud foundations around workload boundaries, governance needs, delivery practices and the operating model that will own the environment after implementation — so migration, data, AI and managed operations land on a durable base.

What cloud foundation services usually include

  • Landing zone and multi-account architecture (cloud foundations core)
  • Identity, access and network architecture
  • Security, logging and governance baseline
  • Infrastructure as code and environment automation
  • CI/CD and deployment foundations
  • Observability and operational readiness
  • Backup, recovery and resilience architecture
  • Cost allocation, tagging and FinOps foundations

Expected outcomes

Make the result clear before the work begins.

  • A documented AWS architecture with clear workload and ownership boundaries
  • Repeatable environment provisioning and baseline controls
  • Improved visibility across security, operations and cost
  • A foundation ready for migration, modernization, data and AI workloads

Typical engagements

Start at the point that matches your environment.

01

Foundation assessment

Review the current AWS structure, dependencies, risks and operating constraints.

02

Architecture design

Define the target account, identity, network, security, delivery and observability model.

03

Foundation implementation

Build, validate and document the approved AWS foundation.

04

Operational readiness

Establish ownership, runbooks, monitoring and transition requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What are AWS cloud foundations?

AWS cloud foundations are the shared account, identity, network, security, logging, delivery and observability baselines that make workloads safer and easier to operate as you grow.

What is included in cloud foundation services?

Typical scope includes landing-zone / multi-account design, IAM and SSO, networking, security and logging baselines, infrastructure as code, CI/CD foundations, observability, backup/recovery patterns, and cost allocation / tagging.

How is cloud foundations different from cloud migration?

Foundations prepare the AWS environment and operating baseline. Migration moves or modernizes workloads onto that baseline. You can assess foundations before, during, or after early migrations — but production scale without foundations usually increases rework.

Do we need foundations before migrating production workloads?

Not every pilot needs a full landing zone on day one, but production workloads benefit from agreed account boundaries, identity, networking, logging and ownership before complexity locks in.

What AWS partner tier is Upvantix?

Upvantix is an AWS Select Tier Services Partner. Partner tier describes program participation; engagement scope and outcomes are agreed separately.
